The Campaign for Psi Chapter of Zeta Psi: Ensuring Zeta Psi’s Legacy as Cornell’s First and Foremost Fraternity, which began early last year, has already reached an impressive major milestone of securing contributions and pledges of nearly $1 million towards the campaign goal of $1.5 million. This is a significant achievement in this relatively short period of time and it bodes well for the ultimate success of the project.
The two Co-Chairs of the committee, Pat Murray ’89, and Jim Prendergast ‘93, as well as Honorary Chairs Tom Jewett ’61 and Peter Nolan ’80, have worked closely with Campaign Coordinator, Greg McElroy, Phi ’70, and several Psi alumni from various eras of the chapter (see attached Campaign Committee roster) to advance this first major gifts capital campaign since the early 1990s when the Psi Chapter celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1993. The current campaign will culminate in 2018 when the Psi Chapter celebrates its 150th anniversary.
Given the very encouraging start to the funding process, the campaign committee is projecting a formal kick-off event to be held in New York City in May or June of this year. During that kick-off event, we will be ready to formally announce the details of the renovation program to the general Brotherhood with a major portion of the funding goal already achieved.
With the anticipated success of this capital campaign project, the Psi Chapter’s 150th Anniversary Celebration in 2018—highlighted by the Psi hosting Zeta Psi’s annual convention in Ithaca next year—will be even more significant. Not only will we be commemorating Zeta Psi’s 150th year on The Hill as Cornell’s first fraternity at the largest Greek system of any private university in the world, but we will be celebrating the results of the funding portion of the house renovation process that will enhance the Psi’s chapter house as one of the most beautiful and functional Greek houses on the Cornell campus.
The Campaign for Psi Chapter will broaden its appeal through the rest of the 2017-year and all Psi alumni will be asked to participate in this large-scale project to upgrade Zeta Psi’s chapter house and to provide other educational and scholarship opportunities for future generations of Zetes at Cornell. If, in the meantime, any alumni wish to learn more about the campaign before being contacted individually, please reach out to Greg McElroy at greg.mcelroy@gmail.com or phone him at 914-582-6466.
These are definitely exciting times for Zeta Psi at Cornell.
In TKPhi,
Gregory McElroy, NYU, Phi ‘70
